Doggy Day Care

41 Glenroy Street, Athol Park

Monday

  • Doggy Daycare - All Dogs Welcome! Our Daycare is run by our experienced and Qualified Behavioural Trainers, meaning your dog is not just going to play but also learn whilst they are here! Benefits of Doggy Daycare:
    • A puppy’s critical developmental period is between 8 to 16 weeks of age. This time is when your puppy should be exposed to a variety of stimuli (people, dogs, environments, sounds, textures, situations, etc.), to develop normal physiological, psychological and social capacities. Learning during this critical period should be a priority as it largely contributes to some future behaviours and development.
    • At daycare, the puppies and dogs get to socialise with a variety of dog breeds, ages, sizes and activity levels as well as being exposed to different objects and sounds. By providing plenty of opportunities for your puppy to be socialised and exposed to different environments we can help to ensure your puppy grows into a well-adjusted adult that relates well to other dogs, other animals and people.
    • During our doggy daycare, dogs and puppies also learn self-control, how to read other dogs body language and appropriate play behaviour.
    • All socialisation and interactions are monitored by our experienced behavioural trainers who are able to ensure appropriate dog interaction and learning as well as making sure they have a fun day out.
    • We have both an outdoor and indoor area so we can continue to operate rain, hail or shine! If the weather is bad outside, you can be sure your pooch will run around and play, ensuring you get a tired dog at the end of the day!
    • Your dog will get to play with interactive toys and equipment, receive some manners training, socialise with dogs, play games and have quiet time when they get tired (this includes some cuddles from us of course).
    • When you pick up your dog, you will receive feedback from the trainers on how your dog went that day. If we find any potential issues, we will give you advice on what you can do to rectify this and how we can help you with that process.
    • Bookings are essential, we require at least 24 hours’ depending on availability. To book in, call, email or send us a message with your dog’s name, breed and your contact information.
Cost: $60 per dog per day. Multi-pass and 2 dog packages available. Availability: Monday - Friday Time: Drop off is anytime from 6.30am and pick up is any time by 6pm. Address: 41 Glenroy Street, Athol Park, 5012 Age:  There is no age limit!

  • Puppy Academy: Early Manners & Socialisation

Puppy Academy focuses on those essential experiences for your puppy in its first few months of life.

This includes exposure to other puppies, exposure to lots of different people, common and uncommon sounds and all kinds of objects. This helps to build your puppy’s confidence and exposure to new experiences. Here at ABT we also get started on some basic training skills for your puppy. Teaching them manners from an early age helps to prevent rebellion later which builds a good foundation of trust and respect for you and your puppy. We also include lots of information and assistance with all those puppy-joys such as toilet training, mouthing and teething! During classes, puppies will be learning:
    • how to give attention when asked
    • to be calm
    • commands such as sit and drop
    • general manners
    • to come when called
    • leash walking skills
    • Leave, wait and give
    • Mat training
    • How to enjoy grooming and Vet checks

    • Great people and dogs nicely
    • Associate with a range of different objects, surfaces, sights and sounds
For more information, please contact us. The first week is run with no puppies present so your instructor can get to know you, and you can learn the theory behind dog training and how dogs learn without the distraction of your puppy.

Your dog will be able to perform for you at home and in the community meaning that you will have a dog you are proud to take out in public. The goal of these higher levels is to get your dog to a point that their behaviour is more reliable with distractions, distance, duration, better response time and the ability to listen reliably without you needing to rely on using rewards to get them to listen to you. There will also be the option for more fun and advanced skills at this level.

Thursday night 7.20pm weekly and FORTNIGHTLY on Saturdays at 2:30pm. All casual classes may be subject to change or cancellation depending on bookings, classes will be confirmed at least one day prior to the booked date! Due to the nature of this being a casual class if sufficient attendees are not booked in we may at times need to reschedule the class. ASSISTANCE DOG TRAINING You may require your dog to help you with your day to day life, especially if you have limitations of your physical abilities. Or you may have a spouse or child that could benefit with the help from your dog. We can train many different Advance Skills, for example opening the door or fridge door, remove your shoes and/or socks, alerting you to a sound or sight, picking up items. TREIBALL Treibball (pronounced try-ball) is an awesome new dog sport and is a fun game for dogs of any size or breed. Dogs learn to run around 8 large exercise balls, pushing the balls one at a time with their nose or shoulder straight into the goal as quickly as possible. Treibball promotes better teamwork and communication between dog and handler as they develop skills in distance work and impulse control. During this class your dog will learn how to play the game, which involves:
    • Out runs
    • Orientation
    • Distance work
    • Nose targets & ball push
    • Impulse control
    • Increase speed
    • Goal scoring
DOGGY DANCING Doggy Dancing provides handlers and their dogs with an opportunity to demonstrate a skilful, choreographed routine, performed to music.  While having its foundation in obedience heelwork, Doggy Dancing enables the handler to include innovative and creative moves and movement in time to music, giving the illusion of dance.   In Heelwork to Music (HTM), another division of DoggyDancing, which is more closely aligned to obedience heelwork, the dog performs in one or more of the prescribed heelwork positions for at  least 60% of the routine. Doggy Dancing is suitable for handlers of all ages and dogs of all breeds, sizes and ages.  There are no compulsory moves in Doggy Dancing Freestyle and the handler develops the routine to showcase the individual dog’s strengths and can omit moves which the dog finds difficult or which are not yet perfected. In Doggy Dancing, handlers and their dogs develop a terrific rapport and, most of all, have fun doing it!  Spectators also thoroughly enjoy watching the sport and seeing the enjoyment of the dogs and marvelling at their achievements. TRICK DOG TRAINING Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert and Champion levels Trick Training is a great way to develop a closer bond with your dog as you work towards goals and enjoy the fun. It helps to improve communication and understanding with your dog and can also increase your dog's confidence, strength, balance and focus. Throughout the class you will be assessed by our Accredited Trainer to gain points to achieve your NTD (Novice Trick Dog Title), ITD (Intermediate Trick Dog Title), ATD (Advanced Trick Dog Title), ETD (Expert Trick Dog Title). SCENT DETECTION TRAINING The objective is to teach the dogs to discriminate one scent and indicate it. We begin by improving the relationship/communication between dog and owner so it works for our goal of scent detection. Then, we teach the dog the indication behavior that we want it to show us when it detects the target scent. The next step consists of getting the dog acquainted with the target scent (and to indicate it). Finally, we move to discrimination where the dog has to identify the target scent from among others. Finally, we move to blind detection where the target scent is hidden in a location unknown to both dog and owner.   Thursdays 30th January @ 7:20pm 6th February @ 7:20pm 13th February @ 7:20pm 20th February @ 7:20pm 27th February @ 7:20pm 5th March @ 7:20pm 12th March @ 7:20pm 19th March @ 7:20pm 26th March @ 7:20pm 2nd April @ 7:20pm 9th April @ 7:20pm 16th April @ 7:20pm 23rd April @ 7:20pm 30th April @ 7:20pm 7th May @ 7:20pm 14th May @ 7:20pm 21st May @ 7:20pm 28th May @ 7:20pm 4th June @ 7:20pm 11th June @ 7:20pm 18th June @ 7:20pm 25th June @ 7:20pm Saturdays 1st February @ 2:30pm 15th February @ 2:30pm 29th February @ 2:30pm 14th March @ 2:30pm 28th March @ 2:30pm 11th April – CLOSED Easter 25th April – CLOSED Anzac Day 9th May @ 2:30pm 23rd May @ 2:30pm 6th June @ 2:30pm 20th June @ 2:30pm
