• Puppy Academy: Early Manners & Socialisation

  Puppy Academy focuses on those essential experiences for your puppy in its first few months of life.

  This includes exposure to other puppies, exposure to lots of different people, common and uncommon sounds and all kinds of objects. This helps to build your puppy’s confidence and exposure to new experiences. Here at ABT we also get started on some basic obedience for your puppy. Teaching them manners from an early age helps to prevent rebellion later which builds a good foundation of trust and respect for you and your puppy. We also include lots of information and assistance with all those puppy-joys such as toilet training, mouthing and teething! During classes, puppies will be learning:
  • how to give attention when asked
  • to be calm
  • commands such as sit and drop
  • general manners
  • to come when called
  • leash walking skills
  • Leave, wait and give
  • Mat training
  For more information, please contact us. The first week is run with no puppies present so your instructor can get to know you, and you can learn the theory behind dog training and how dogs learn without the distraction of your puppy.

  Advanced dog obedience classes for adult dogs

  This course is designed to refine some of the basic exercises from Level 1. Level 2 will focus on verbal and hand cues, and getting your dog to improve with duration, distance and distractions. We will work on:
  • recalls
  • commands such as settle, mat (go to mat) and stay
  • settling after play
  • walking close in the heel position for passing dogs and people
  We will also teach your dog to follow targets and perform tricks. Dogs will learn to walk and perform at markers, handle and accept restraint, first aid, tolerance to separation and car safety. You will be finding out about how dogs learn and communicate, leadership and trouble-shooting skills.

• Puppy Academy: Early Manners & Socialisation

  Puppy Academy focuses on those essential experiences for your puppy in its first few months of life.

  This includes exposure to other puppies, exposure to lots of different people, common and uncommon sounds and all kinds of objects. This helps to build your puppy’s confidence and exposure to new experiences. Here at ABT we also get started on some basic obedience for your puppy. Teaching them manners from an early age helps to prevent rebellion later which builds a good foundation of trust and respect for you and your puppy. We also include lots of information and assistance with all those puppy-joys such as toilet training, mouthing and teething! During classes, puppies will be learning:
  • how to give attention when asked
  • to be calm
  • commands such as sit and drop
  • general manners
  • to come when called
  • leash walking skills
  • Leave, wait and give

  Advanced/ Assistance Dog Skills

  ASSISTANCE DOG TRAINING You may require your dog to help you with your day to day life, especially if you have limitations of your physical abilities. Or you may have a spouse or child that could benefit with the help from your dog. We can train many different Advance Skills, for example opening the door or fridge door, remove your shoes and/or socks, alerting you to a sound or sight, picking up items. TREIBALL Treibball (pronounced try-ball) is an awesome new dog sport and is a fun game for dogs of any size or breed. Dogs learn to run around 8 large exercise balls, pushing the balls one at a time with their nose or shoulder straight into the goal as quickly as possible. Treibball promotes better teamwork and communication between dog and handler as they develop skills in distance work and impulse control. During this class your dog will learn how to play the game, which involves:

  • Orientation
  • Distance work
  • Nose targets & ball push
  • Impulse control
  • Increase speed
  • Goal scoring
  DOGGY DANCING Doggy Dancing provides handlers and their dogs with an opportunity to demonstrate a skilful, choreographed routine, performed to music.  While having its foundation in obedience heelwork, Doggy Dancing enables the handler to include innovative and creative moves and movement in time to music, giving the illusion of dance.   In Heelwork to Music (HTM), another division of DoggyDancing, which is more closely aligned to obedience heelwork, the dog performs in one or more of the prescribed heelwork positions for at  least 60% of the routine. Doggy Dancing is suitable for handlers of all ages and dogs of all breeds, sizes and ages.  There are no compulsory moves in Doggy Dancing Freestyle and the handler develops the routine to showcase the individual dog’s strengths and can omit moves which the dog finds difficult or which are not yet perfected. In Doggy Dancing, handlers and their dogs develop a terrific rapport and, most of all, have fun doing it!  Spectators also thoroughly enjoy watching the sport and seeing the enjoyment of the dogs and marvelling at their achievements. TRICK DOG TRAINING Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert and Champion levels Trick Training is a great way to develop a closer bond with your dog as you work towards goals and enjoy the fun. It helps to improve communication and understanding with your dog and can also increase your dog's confidence, strength, balance and focus. Throughout the class you will be assessed by Amy Van Dyk to gain points to achieve your NTD (Novice Trick Dog Title), ITD (Intermediate Trick Dog Title), ATD (Advanced Trick Dog Title), ETD (Expert Trick Dog Title) and eventually even Champion Trick Dog Title through 'Do More With Your Dogs USA' (the official sanctioning and organising body for the sport of Dog Tricks). SCENT DETECTION TRAINING The objective is to teach the dogs to discriminate one scent and indicate it. We begin by improving the relationship/communication between dog and owner so it works for our goal of scent detection. Then, we teach the dog the indication behavior that we want it to show us when it detects the target scent. The next step consists of getting the dog acquainted with the target scent (and to indicate it). Finally, we move to discrimination where the dog has to identify the target scent from among others. • Casual Obedience Dog TrainingFor those who cannot commit to an eight week course, we also hold casual group classes. These classes are run fortnightly on consecutive Saturdays; one is a morning class and the opposite one is late afternoon. Please call us if you have any queries for this class. • Obedience Level 1 

  Basic dog obedience classes for adult dogs/puppies

  During these classes, your dog will learn to:
  • make eye contact with you
  • walk on a loose lead
  • come when called
  • sit for greetings
  • lie down and stand on cue
  • leave it
  • handling skills for grooming and vet visits
  You will also learn about canine body language, environment enrichment, life rewards, on lead manners around other dogs, using a clicker, and mat training. We will include some tricks to train too!

• Off Lead and Recall SkillsWe will work on self-control, stimulus control and reliability of the dog's behaviour when not on a lead. Also covering Agility, Recall and Obedience – all done off the lead. These classes are lots of fun and are open to any graduates of our Level 2 Obedience courses (or equivalent).
